Turnkey Tablet POS Solution and Rollout for Iconic American Lifestyle Retailer
Our customer, an innovative footwear and lifestyle accessories retailer, reached out to TDX Tech to manage the complete rollout of a new tablet-based omnichannel point-of-sale solution across their 90+ stores, nationwide. In addition to procuring, staging, and deploying the new solution, they required back-office upgrades to support the new platform, as well as the decommissioning of their old assets, including Department-of-Defense-level data destruction services.
TDX Tech assigned a dedicated project management team to work closely with our customer’s Retail Systems Team and their Solutions Architect to coordinate the entire tablet-based POS solution rollout.
To ensure the project ran smoothly, our team developed a comprehensive strategy that integrated multiple TDX Tech teams, including hardware procurement, staging services, deployment, and installation/de-installation.
The entire project, including field services and asset management, utilized WebTrax, our proprietary project management portal, providing our customer with real-time access to all project information, including scheduling, work-orders, deliverables, hardware counts and alerts, shipment tracking, and reporting.
Project management requirements:
- Overall project scheduling, maintenance, and reporting
- Asset procurement and management
- Deployment and installation scheduling
- Comprehensive technician management
- Key deliverables management (photos, checklists, reports, etc.)
Staging, configuration, and deployment requirements:
- Receive, audit, unbox, and set up new equipment
- Complete all staging and imaging services (including Jamf MDM configuration)
- Perform burn-in and stress-testing of hardware and software
- Prepare equipment for deployment, including serialized tracking
On-site field installation services:
- Provide technician(s) for national field services
- Deinstall and package legacy PC-based POS hardware equipment
- Place, install, and connect new tablet-based POS to the client’s network
- Conduct quality assurance processes to verify systems run successfully
- Document installation process (checklists, photos, test results, etc.)
- Update WebTrax to ensure deliverables are available to the customer
Decommissioning services (asset disposition):
- Receive and audit all legacy equipment from customer’s locations
- Power-up, test, and decommission connected resources
- Provide certified Department-of-Defense-level data destruction services for all data storage devices
The rollout of the new tablet-based POS solution across 90+ stores was successfully executed, thanks to the coordinated efforts of TDX Tech and the customer’s Retail Systems Team. Utilizing the WebTrax portal ensured efficient scheduling, asset tracking, and timely delivery of project milestones.
The deployment led to improved operational efficiency and customer experiences. The rigorous staging, imaging, and testing processes minimized downtime and technical issues. Secure de-installation of legacy systems and data destruction services ensured efficient asset disposition.
Looking ahead, our customer's new omnichannel POS system is expected to streamline online and in-store sales processes while improving overall inventory management, creating an enhanced customer experience. The upgraded tablet-based POS solution will support ongoing growth and scalability, positioning the customer for future expansion and competitiveness in the retail market.
